Character

Mesoscutum and scutellar-axillar complex [93]

Description

The mesoscutum flexes relative to the scutellar-axillar complex along the transscutal articulation. Normally the line of flexion acts like a hinge with the two sclerites rotating along a line of weakness; however, in Encyrtidae, Tanaostigmatidae and some Eupelmidae the margins of the two sclerites separate from each other during flexion (state 1). Citation: Gibson (1989: 8).
