Expansion of acropleuron [108]

Description

In most chalcidoids, the acropleuron is a small region dorsally on the mesopleuron below the base of the fore wing. Internally, it is the site of attachment for a muscle that in the “jumpers” (most Eupelmidae as well as Encyrtidae, Tanaostigmatidae, and some Aphelinidae) is variably enlarged because the muscle is enlarged (Gibson 1989). The different states defined represent the different extents the acropleuron is expanded in different chalcidoids. Citation: Gibson (1983:3); Krogmann & Vilhelmsen (2006: 77); Kim & Heraty (2012: 30).
