Position of mesothoracic spiracle relative to mesoscutum [107]

Description

State 1 has been postulated as a synapomorphy for Chalcidoidea (Gibson, 1986a). Some chalcidoids have the mesothoracic spiracle secondarily surrounded by cuticle (character 71), but the spiracle is at the level of the lateral edge of the mesoscutum (Fig. 4d). Citations: Gibson (1986: 11; 1999: 9).
