Metanotal scutellar arm (mtsa) [139]

Description

The metanotum posterolaterally to the dorsellum usually has a flange (metascutellar arm after Krogmann and Vilhelmsen, 2006) with a convex dorsal surface that articulates with the propodeum. It also typically has concave area anterior to the arm that usually has some incomplete longitudinal carinae, which is called the metanotal trough. In most chalcidoids, the metanotal arm extends over a depression in the lateral part of the propodeum, near the spiracle (state 0). Small-bodied chalcidoids sometimes have the metanotal arm greatly reduced. In Idioporus (Pteromalidae), the metaonotal arm appears to extend beneath the propodeal margin (state 2), wheras the metanotum in Chiloe (Rotitidae) does not have a flange (state 3).
