Character

Setation of elongate Mt1 (petiole) [205]

Description

The presence of a single lateral row of petiolar setae was used by Gibson (2003) as a character of Leptofoeninae and Nefoeninae relative to other Cleonyminae. The petiole of possibly every chalcidoid has at least one lateral seta, which would constitute being setose along its entire length when the petiole is very short. Therefore, it is specified that this character refers only to species with an elongate petiole. Derived states of this character are also known to occur in the presumably unrelated Pteromalidae Polstonia (Sphegigastrini) and Neapterolelaps (Diparinae).
