Character

Flagellomere one sensilla (female) [3]

Description

Outgroups may or may not have MPS on the true basal flagellomere. Multiporous plate sensilla in Chalcidoidea were described by Barlin et al. (1980) and Barlin & Vinson (1981), and elaborated upon by Basibuyuk & Quicke (Basibuyuk and Quicke, 1999). The basal flagellomere (F1) lacks MPS in all female Chalcidoidea, and all males with the exception of Mymaridae (character 19). Some Chalcidoidea lack a homologous F1, and where it could be interpreted as absent, we scored this as inapplicable (treated as missing data). Within Eucharitidae, F1 was shown to be fused with F2 in Gollumiella (Figs 2 a,b) and proposed to be lost (likely fused with F2) in all Eucharitini (Heraty, 2002; Heraty et al., 2004). An anellus (F1) was proposed to be absent in all Aphelininae with the exception of the genus Mashimaro (Kim and Heraty, 2012). In Marietta (Aphelininae), the presence of a coeloconic sensillum on F2 on the minute basal flagellomere (character 11; cf. fig. 203 Kim & Heraty 2012) would support their homology with F2 of other taxa; thus F1 would be absent and inapplicable. In both families, the basal flagellomere (homologous F2) usually has distinct MPS again suggesting homology to F2 of other taxa. Citation: Lotfalizadeh et al. (2007: 63).
