Character

Shape of apical margin of clypeus [12]

Description

The relative shape of the clypeus has been used to assess relationships from a phylogenetic perspective in Pteromalidae (Heydon, 1989) and Torymidae (Grissell, 1995) with some success. However across Chalcidoidea it is very variable. State 0 approximates what might be termed a simple clypeal margin. For states 7 and 8, the convexity or concavity should be at least as deep as the clypeal width. Citations: Graham (1987: 1); Grissell (1995: 6); Heraty (1994: 12); Lotfalizadeh et al. (2007: 4, 5); Gates (2008: 9).
