Character Details

Character

Upper ocular sulcus (uos) of head anteriorly [13]

Description

This character refers only to a sharply incised sulcus, and not to an impressed groove or furrow. The upper ocular sulcus connects the ocular (eye) margin with the transfacial line. In some cases it parallels the eye margin; in others it extends laterally from the eye margin to the scrobe. In Coccophagus, the sulcus forms a transverse line across the head. This is usually found in small, weakly sclerotized taxa, but the state is also found in Phenaceupelmus (Eupelmidae) and some Tetracampinae.
